On The Record (Player) Friday Vol. 1.1

Here at Tallon & Co, we love to kick off the weekend with some great tunes playing in the background. Welcome to On The Record (Player) Friday, where each week we’ll share a record that’s been stuck in our heads and on repeat during the week.

This week’s pick

The Cosmic Selector Pt. 1 by Lord Huron.

Lord Huron creates an amazing mix of indie-folk music with a dreamlike and otherworldly vibe. The Cosmic Selector Pt. 1 continues that tradition through a musical journey of love, regret and the role of fate in life. It’s a spiritual successor to 2018’s Vide Noir and perfect for an early morning work sesh with coffee or late-night drive across the country.

OUR FAVS

Two songs really stand out for us. First, “Nothing That I Need” is the quintessential Lord Huron hit. It starts with a slow folksy melody and builds to a bold chorus wrapped in the irony of having it all except the one thing that makes life worth it. A sad story told with a bright melody, it’s an instant classic and one that is hard not to sing along to. While almost every song on the album is worth a listen, the other big hit for us is “Digging Up The Past”. This song is really the perfect blend of California-Western ballad and really catches you off-guard (in a good way) on the full album play through.

Of course, the other song and music video that really built the most intrigue in this album is the Kristin Stewart feature “Who Laughs Last”. This song is really the essence of the what the album’s concept promises and puts this album’s launch on a different astral plane.

Closing Thoughts

What we really love about this album is how it blends timeless folk elements with fresh, cosmic sounds. It fits nicely with our vibe, classic but a little unexpected, thoughtful but easygoing. It’s an album that continues the Lord Huron cosmos and makes you remember life is all about the journey, right?

So if you’re looking for something new to listen to this weekend, give The Cosmic Selector Pt. 1 a spin. Whether you’re already a fan of Lord Huron or it’s your first time, this album is a great escape and a reminder that good music makes any moment better.

We’ll be back next week with another record that’s been inspiring us here at Tallon & Co. Until then, enjoy the music and check out our playlist where we’re constantly updating with our favorite songs new and old!

Cheers,

Tallon & Co.
